/ - denotes a pairing. Most often used in western fandoms. Ex: Harry/Draco, Ginny/Tonks, Ron/Hermione
x - denotes a pairing. Most often used in Japanese fandoms. Ex: SanzoxGojyo, HildexRelena, TamahomexMiaka
+ - denotes friendship or one sided romantic feelings. The first person
listed is usually the one with the unrequited feelings. Ex: Kairi+Sora, Yuffie+Cloud, Cid+Vincent

Alley, The - Short for FictionAlley.org. Large Harry Potter fanfiction and fanart site.
Alternate Universe - Fic or Fanart that takes characters outside of the canon setting.
Angst - A fic containing lots of mental anguish for the characters.
AU - See Alternate Universe
B
beta - Short for beta-reader. A person who reads a fanfiction for an author before it is published.
During the reading the beta corrects spelling, grammer, and any other mistakes that may exist in the draft.

canon - The official stuff. Anything created by the origional author is canon.

dark - A fic containing angst and possibly disturbing material. Usually horror.
death - A fic containing the death of a major character.

fanart - A work of art done by a fan of something origional that they like
but do not own.
fandom - This is what the fan base of anything is called. ex: If you
are a fan of Harry potter then you are a member of the Harry Potter fandom.
fanon - A popular notion so used by fans it is almost considered canon.
femmeslash - Refers to a relationship between two females.
fic - Short for fanfic or fanfiction. A story written by fans taking characters,
situations, ect. that they did not create and writing their own story with them.
ficcer - A person who writes fanfiction.

gen - Short for general. A fanfiction term describing a fic
in which the main character has no romantic ties or interests.
glomp - A very enthusiastic hug usually involving a running leap onto the
reciever.

het - Short for Hetero. Refers to a relationship between a male and female.

lemon - A fic that contains an explicit sexual scene.
lime - A fic that contains mild sexual innuendo,a 'make-out', or 'snogging scene'.

M - A rating. See Mature.
Mature - A rating. Stories or Art with content not appropriate for younger readers/viewers. Ex: Excess Violence, sex, ect.
N
NC-17 - A rating. Stories or Art with mature content not meant for anyone below the
age of 17.
Non-Con - Short for nonconsensual or rape.

R - A rating. Stories or Art with content not appropriate for younger readers. Ex: Mild to Heavy Violence, intimate descriptions, ect.

shag - To have sex.
ship - Short for relationship. An online slang term refering to a pairing
of two characters. ex: Harry/Draco is a slash ship.
shipper - Refers to a fan of any pairing.
shotacon - Sexual acts between two minors and/or an adult and a minor.
shoujo - Japanese for girl. Also refers to a genre of anime and manga for girls.
shoujo ai - Japanese for 'girl love'. A relationship between two girls.
shounen - Japanese for boy. Also refers to a genre of anime and manga for boys.
shounen ai - Japanese for 'boy love'. A relationship between two boys.
slash - Refers to a relationship between two males.
snog - to 'make-out'. Heavy kissing and petting
